opportunity for its members to meet together as friends in the Catholic Church. It links the Catholic Church and the Scouting Movement all over the world. It contributes to the complete education of young people through Scouting from the point of view of the Catholic faith. It develops and enhances the spiritual dimension of Scouting in the World Scout Movement. The Pope appoints priests to work with the International Catholic Conference of Scouting as chaplains or ecclesiastical associates. The World Chaplain for Catholic Scouting is Monsignor Robert Guglielmone of Wantagh, New York. The Chaplain for the Inter-American Region is Rev. Leo LeBlanc of Manchester, New Hampshire.
Funds generated by this program will further the work of the International Catholic Conference of Scouting.

NOTE: This is an activity of the NCCS International Committee, not a religious emblems program or award. This is a non-restrictive activity. You may wear the pin, patch, and medallion for formal occasions.

Cub Scout/Daisy/Brownies Requirements (Grades 1-5, age 6-10) (Earns Patch and Pin):
A. Look up the definition of the word "Catholic" in the dictionary and write it out.
B. Plus, do any two (2) or more of the five following:

List 10 countries that have Scouting programs for Catholics.
Earn the Light of Christ, Family of God, Parvuli Dei or I Live My Faith Award.
Know the name of the Patron Saint of Scouts and Girl Guides around the world and the date of his feast day.
A modification of the Jerusalem Cross is used as a symbol of the International Catholic Conference for Scouting (ICCS). It is sometimes known as the "Crusader Cross", and is found on the International Awareness Patch. Draw a picture or take a photo of it.
With your parent, guardian or Scout Leaders visit a Catholic Church of a different national background or a different rite from your own.

Boy Scouts/Cadets/Juniors Requirements (Grades 6-8, age 10-13) (Earns Patch and Pin)
A. Look up the definition of “Catholic” in the dictionary or Catholic Encyclopedia and tell how it applies to the Catholic Church.
B. Do any three (3) or more of the following 9 options:

Correspond with a Catholic Scout in another country by e-mail or mail.
Help a Cub Scout, Daisy or Brownie earn his/her International Awareness Patch.
Earn the “Citizenship in the World” Merit Badge.
Earn the Ad Altare Dei or Marian award.
Learn about the life of the Patron Saint of Scouts, and discuss him with your counselor.
Talk to someone who has experienced Catholicism in another country about what it is like to live as a Catholic in that country.
View a video or movie on Scouting in another country (e.g., World Jamboree, World Youth Day).
Learn to say “Be Prepared” and the Sign of the Cross in a foreign language.
Visit the web sites of the World Organization of the Scouting Movement . . (WOSM) at www.scout.org and the International Catholic Conference for Scouting . (ICCS) at www.cics.org How many countries have a Scouting Program? How many countries are members of ICCS?

Venturing/Senior Boy or Girl Scout Requirements (Grades 9-12, age 14-17)
(Earns Patch, Pin and Medallion)
A. Help at least one younger Scout earn his/her International Awareness Recognition.
B. Do any three (3) or more of the following nine (9) options:

Correspond by email with 2 Catholic Scouts in two other countries.
Visit the web sites of the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM) at www.scout.org and the International Catholic Conference on Scouting (ICCS) at www.cics.org Discuss the contents with your crew/counselor
List 20 countries including at least one in each of the 4 regions that have Scouting programs for Catholics.
Participate in the JOTA or JOTI
Teach a Cub, Daisy, Brownie, or Boy Scout about the life of the Patron Saint of Scouts and Girl Guides.
Attend a Divine Liturgy or a Mass celebrated in a Catholic Church of a different national background or a different rite from your own. Discuss your experience with your Crew and counselor.
Earn the Pope Pius XII or The Spirit Alive Award.
View a video or movie on Scouting in another country (e.g., World Jamboree, World Youth Day).
Attend a National or World Jamboree or other International Scouting activity and speak with Scouts from 2 other countries about the role of religion in their Scouting programs.

Scout Leader Requirements (Age 18 or above) (Earns Patch, Pin and Medallion)
A. Help at least 2 Cubs, Daisies, Brownies, Scouts or Venturers in different units to earn the International Awareness Recognition.
B. Do any three (3) or more of the following eight (8) options:

Participate in a National or World Jamboree or other International Scouting activity. Share with youth in Scouting the religious dimension of what you experienced.
Correspond by email with 2 Catholic Scout Leaders in two other countries.
Participate and assist Cubs, Daisies, Brownies, Scouts or Venturers participate in JOTA or JOTI.
Explain to Cubs, Daisies, Brownies, Scouts or Venturers the differences and similarities between at least 2 kinds of religious art (e.g. icons, statues, mosaics, paintings).
Share information with Cubs, Daises, Brownies, Scouts or Venturers about Scouting for Catholics in another country.
Earn the BSA International Award.
Attend a Divine Liturgy or a Mass celebrated in a Catholic Church of a different national background or a different rite from your own. Share this experience (and provide transportation if possible) with 2 or more Cubs, Daises, Brownies, Scouts or Venturers.
Think about the difference it makes in your life that you are a Catholic, and share it with the Scouting youth with whom you work.
